Aging Together : Supporting and Caring for Older Tongzhi (LGBTQ+) in Hong Kong

Through five scenarios, each presenting both "needs improvement" and "more appropriate" approaches, we aim to educate frontline workers on how to provide services that are diverse, inclusive, and affirming of tongzhi identities. Additionally, this project promotes the importance of HIV testing and the concept of "Undetectable = Untransmittable" (U=U). Following this, we interviewed several older tongzhi to learn about their life experiences, their views on healthcare and social services, and their perspectives and expectations regarding diversity, inclusion, and affirmation of their identities.

Resilience and Solidarity seeks not only to improve the quality of healthcare and social services for older tongzhi but also to ensure they receive the respect and support they deserve, allowing them to live with greater dignity in society.

Step 1: Watch the video

Each educational video on our platform presents two scenarios - a "needs improvement" scenario and a "better suited" scenario.

  • "Can be improved" scenario: Demonstrates a lack of diversity, inclusion, and affirmation being neglected. By viewing this example, you can observe common mistakes and understand the impact they have on those involved.
  • “More appropriate” scenario: Demonstrates consideration of the principles of diversity, inclusion, and LGBT identity affirmation. Viewing this example can help you see how positive interactions can create a supportive and respectful environment.

Step 2: Think about the problem

After viewing both versions of the educational video, take time to reflect on the questions provided. This will help you think about and analyze the situations, identify the differences between the two examples, and consider how they apply in your own life or work environment.

Step 3: Reflection/Discussion

If you are studying on your own, take time to reflect on your answers individually, writing them down if necessary. If you are using these educational videos in a group, discuss them based on the questions provided. This step will deepen your understanding and help solidify key points.

Step 4: Apply what you have learned

Think about how to apply the lessons learned from these educational videos to real life. Whether in your personal life, workplace or community, strive to practice the principles of diversity, inclusion and affirmation in "more appropriate" situations.

These learning activities aim to promote awareness and discussion among healthcare and social service personnel, highlighting the need to consider service principles such as diversity, inclusion and LGBT identity affirmation when providing services.

Step 5: Learn More

We are excited to continue working with you to build a more diverse, inclusive, and LGBT-affirming community. Here are some ways to stay involved:

  • Learn more about ways to support Late Childcare, such as fundraising or volunteering.

  • Organize more inclusion-enhancing training sessions for your team.

  • Tell us about local events or strategy groups where we can get involved and raise awareness.

Stay connected and let’s continue to create an inclusive environment together.
